Barry Melbert, M.D.

R. Barry Melbert, M.D., is a colon and rectal and general surgeon with Kendrick Regional Center for Colon and Rectal Care.

Dr. Melbert received his doctor of medicine degree from Indiana University. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from IU, where he was an Honors Division Scholar.

He completed his general surgery residency at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis before moving on to a colon and rectal care surgery fellowship at the Northwest Colon and Rectal Clinic in Seattle.

Dr. Melbert is board certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Society and Indianapolis Medical Society.

Dr. Melbert was named one of Indianapolis Monthly Magazine’s “top doctors” in 2001. He was named a “top surgeon” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America from 2004 to 2006. He also received an award for distinguished research from Indiana University.

Dr. Melbert is an associate instructor at Indiana University, a consultant/lecturer with the American Cancer Society and lecturer for Ethicon Endo Surgery. He is a former lecturer at Butler University and former advanced trauma life support instructor. He serves on many committees as well as the St. Francis Healthcare Foundation board at St. Francis Hospital.
