Hospice House: Our Dream

Most people who access hospice services wish to die at home surrounded by loved ones; however, sometimes, for various reasons, home care is not an option.

A terminally ill young parent may not want his or her children to remember home as the place where mom or dad died. Elderly couples may need around-the-clock support from a caregiver. Family members may want a quiet, spacious environment that allows them to focus solely on the quality of the end-of life process for their loved ones.

In addition, incurable patients, families, and loved ones often need a level of attention and comfort that can be hard to find when hospice services are part of a regular hospital environment.

A free-standing Hospice House can provide the care and ease-of-mind in these circumstances.

Located in a beautifully wooded natural setting, Hospice House will provide a tranquil place for patients and loved ones to relax, reflect and meditate.  Moreover, because the facility will be separate from the hospital campus, there will be the flexibility of unlimited visitation hours for loved ones and family members, including the family pet.

Hospice House will be a 16-suite facility with room for expansion to 32 suites featuring warm, bright gathering areas, a kitchen and dining areas, luxurious landscaping, and a chapel for reflection, meditation and worship.  It is estimated that Hospice House will serve more than 800 patients per year.

St. Francis medical professionals will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing state-of-the-art pain and symptom management, plus emotional and spiritual support.  These individuals will provide various levels of care, including general inpatient care for intense medical intervention, acute care, and respite care.
