John A. McIntyre, Ph.D., FRC Path, dip. ABHI 

Dr. John McIntyre is the Director of the HLA-Vascular Biology Laboratory at St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers and is also an adjunct Professor of Biology at Indiana University - Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI).

Dr. McIntyre is a Phi Beta Kappa from Rockford College, Rockford, Ill., and received his Ph.D. in anatomy and pathology from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C. He did a Postdoctoral NIH Fellowship in the Department of Pathology at Harvard Medical School under the direction of Nobel Laureate, Prof. Baruj Benacerraf.

Dr. McIntyre has served as:

  • Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pathology and Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston South Carolina
  • Chief, Immunobiology, Blonde-McIndoe Centre, Royal College of Surgeons, London, England 
  • Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Microbiology, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, Illinois.

Other achievements include:

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Pathology, London
  • Past president of the American Society for the Immunology of Reproduction
  • Member of the Board of Directors, Indiana Organ Procurement Organization
  • Member of the Antiphospholipid Antibody International Advisory Board.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics

Prior to coming to St. Francis in 2000, Dr. McIntyre served as Director of Research, Methodist Center for Reproduction and Transplantation Immunology and Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory, Clarian Health Partners in Indianapolis.

Dr. McIntyre's areas of study include:

  • the transplantation analogies of pregnancy
  • transplantation immunology with emphasis on serological and DNA methodologies
  • the study of autoantibodies to phospholipids and phospholipid-binding proteins.

He is a world-renowned lecturer and has authored more than 200 scientific papers and over 230 abstracts. Read a sample list from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Dawn R. Wagenknecht, B.A., M.S., CHS (ABHI)

Dawn Wagenknecht is the Supervisor and Manager of the HLA-Vascular Biology Laboratory at St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers.

Ms. Wagenknecht received her B.A. in Microbiology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and her M.S. from the Department of Biology at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. She has received post-graduate training in immunology and molecular biology from numerous academic centers.

She was the first individual in Indiana to receive designation as a Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) from the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics.

Her professional positions have included:

  • Laboratory Assistant in the Department of Microbiology at Southern Illinois University
  • Immunology Technician and Immunology/Perfusion Technologist at the Immunotransplant Laboratory at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.
  • Histocompatibility/Research Technologist and Lead Molecular Research Biotechnologist for the Center for Reproduction and Transplantation Immunology, Methodist Hospital of Indiana.

Ms. Wagenknecht's achievements include:

  • The Young Investigator Award from the Vth International Symposium on Antiphospholipid Antibodies in San Antonio, Texas
  • The Robbins Scientific Travel Award from Robbins Scientific Corporation.

She is an active member of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. Prior to coming to St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers in 1999, Ms. Wagenknecht served as the Lead Molecular Research Biotechnologist for the Transplantation Immunology Laboratory for Clarian Health Partners in Indianapolis.

Dawn Wagenknecht's research interests have focused on:

  • transplantation analogies of pregnancy
  • transplantation immunology with emphasis on serological and DNA methodologies
  • the study of autoantibodies to phospholipids and phospholipid-binding proteins.

She has presented more than 20 professional lectures on HLA and antiphospholipid antibodies, organized numerous professional meetings and workshops on these topics and has more than 30 published articles and book chapters. Read a sample list from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

W. Page Faulk, M.D., FRC Path

Dr. Faulk is a consultant to the HLA-Vascular Biology Laboratory at St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers. He is a graduate of the University of the South in Sewanee and completed his medical degree at Tulane University, interned at the University of California Medical Center and did a Fellowship in Pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic.

Following post-doctoral work in Immunology, he accepted a staff position with the World Health Organization in Geneva, where he helped develop their Department of Immunology, after which he was appointed Member of Scientific Staff of the British Medical Research Council. He also has been Professor of Immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina, and Scientific Director of the Royal College of Surgeons' Transplantation Centre at East Grinsted, England.

Dr. Faulk is an expert in the field of immunocytochemistry and holds numerous patents on the subject of drug-delivery in cancer. A noted inventor, Dr. Faulk owns his own company, Faulk Pharmaceutical Research, LLC., which is a biomedical company specializing in unique drug delivery systems. Dr. Faulk is a world renowned lecturer and author and was awarded the Society Medal of the American Society of Reproductive Immunology for contributions to the field of Reproductive Medicine. Prior to coming to St. Francis in 2000, Dr. Faulk served as Director, Experimental Pathology, Methodist Center for Reproduction and Transplantation Immunology at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Dr. Faulk's areas of study include:

  • immunological problems in women's diseases and reproductive immunology
  • immunocytochemistry
  • targeted drug delivery
  • the study of autoantibodies to phospholipids.
