First-Year Residents
Kile Carter, M.D.

- Why Family Medicine: Dr. Carter’s time at a rural family practice office helped him begin to realize the appeal of primary care medicine. He notes that practicing family medicine will allow him to establish lasting relationships while caring for patients with a variety of ailments and needs.

Brian Coppinger, M.D.

- Other interests: Road biking, home improvement, spending time with family and following medical policy decision making
- Why Family Medicine: Dr. Coppinger has always considered family relationships to be the most important, so it was a natural step for him to select family medicine. As a child in a community of 3,000 people, Dr. Coppinger decided that he wanted to practice family medicine in a small town and has spent the past 20 years working toward that goal.
Alfie Diamond, M.D.

- Why Family Medicine: After college, Dr. Diamond spent eight years doing jobs that had always interested him, including medical research, carpentry, teaching and art. While studying sculpture and teaching anatomy, Dr. Diamond came to the realization that he wanted to become a doctor. He originally assumed he would take up surgery, but as he cycled through medical school rotations, he found himself enjoying every specialty he encountered. An elective in family medicine solidified his final choice.
Angela Hackman, M.D.

- Other interests: Spending time with family, cooking, bicycling and gardening
- Why Family Medicine: Dr. Hackman has always enjoyed the opportunity to get to know her patients and hear their stories. She hopes to become the sort of physician who can become a part of her patients’ lives as she provides care from cradle to grave. She enjoys the variety found in family medicine and is especially attracted to the geriatric population.
Eric Hartman, M.D.

- Why Family Medicine: Dr. Hartman is the son of a physician and learned firsthand about the ability a physician has to touch the lives of others in meaningful ways. In medical school, Dr. Hartman found the hands-on time to be the most invigorating. His goal as a family physician is to be a part of his patients’ lives and to help guide them through the complexities of the medical system.

- Why Family Medicine: The son of a minister, Dr. LaMaster grew up accompanying his father to the hospital to visit new parents as well as the dying. He became interested in meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the people he met. Family medicine was always his first choice for a medical specialty.
