A treadmill test is a study where you are asked to walk on a treadmill while your electrocardiogram (EKG) and blood pressure are monitored throughout the test and symptoms are evaluated.
Why has my doctor ordered a stress test?
A treadmill test helps your physician evaluate the performance of your heart and cardiovascular system in order to detect significant heart disease that may not be apparent with a resting ECG.
How do I prepare for a stress test?
No special preparation is required for a stress echocardiogram. You should come prepared to walk on a treadmill. You should wear comfortable walking shoes and loose-fitting clothing. Eat or drink as you normally do. If you take medications, you should continue to take them as normal unless your doctor specifies otherwise.
What should I expect during the test?
You will be walking on the treadmill for approximately three to 12 minutes. Your total appointment time for a treadmill test will be approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
When can I expect to hear results?
You will get the results of the test while you are in the office after one of our cardiologists has interpreted your results. Copies of the test results will be shared with the ordering physician.
Where is the procedure done?
Treadmill tests may be scheduled at the Indiana Heart Physicians medical office building, located at 5330 E. Stop 11 Road, or at our St. Francis Hospital—Mooresville location. Get directions.
What are my instructions for the test?
You should take your medications as usual unless instructed otherwise by your physician. Bring a list of all medications that you are currently taking, both prescription and over-the-counter, to your appointment. You should avoid eating a large meal within one hour of your test time. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are comfortable for walking.
